German company Schott Glaswerke is producing small glass vials coated with an interior protective Pure Top SiO2 layer to package ultra-sensitive drugs and specific chemicals. Pure Top has a high chemical stability and is applied to each vial individually. The SiO2 coating on the inside of the glass container is said to prevent the diffusion of glass components into the solution. The coating is also said to be effective at temperatures above 300C for more than 30 minutes. The glass vials are available in the UK from Adelphi Tubes.
