Saint-Gobain to establish a glass unit in Visakhapatnam

The company will be set up the unit at Atchyuthapuram

Saint-Gobain will soon be setting up a manufacturing unit in Visakhapatnam. The company will be establishing the unit at Atchyuthapuram with an estimated cost of 20 billion INR.

J. Krishna Kishore, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB), while speaking at a seminar on unlocking the economic potential of Andhra Pradesh by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), AP branch, said that Andhra Pradesh has taken rapid strides, post the bifurcation in 2014.

He said that Saint-Gobain currently has a modern glass manufacturing unit at Sri Perambudur near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Stating that a similar model will be replicated here in Visakhapatnam, Mr. Kishore said that in due course, the capacity of the Visakhapatnam unit may be increased to exceed that of the Chennai unit.

As reported earlier, the manufacturing unit of Saint-Gobain in Visakhapatnam, as per the company’s Detailed Project Planning (DPP), would offer direct employment to nearly 1,300 people and indirect employment to about 500 people.

He further said that authorities were planning to set up an electronics park on 1,000 acres in the state, in addition to aiming towards setting up MSME parks in each of the 175 constituencies across Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Kishore also highlighted that the state was in for a few other major projects, including the 700 billion INR Adani Data Park in Visakhapatnam.
