The UK“s Rockware Glass is to change its name to Ardagh Glass, after its Irish parent group. The name change follows Dublin-based Ardagh“s EUR 660 million (GBP 447 million) acquisition of Rexam Glass“ European plants, making it the third largest glass container maker in Europe. The deal requires approval from competition authorities. Ardagh acquired Rexam“s plant in Barnsley, northern England, two years ago for GBP 50 million, changing its name to Rockware after the UK-based glass business which it already owned. Ardagh plans to rebrand all of its European glass-making subsidiaries: Rockware Glass in the UK, Heye Glas in Germany, Huta Szkla Ujscie in Poland and Abruzzo Vetro in Italy. Other manufacturing companies in the group, Heye International and SFO in Germany and FFS and FUP in Poland, will keep their existing names. Ardagh sales director Alex Robertson, said: “We see this as a positive move for our business as it will align us more closely with our sister companies and enable us to work more effectively in satisfying the changing requirements of our customer base”. Ardagh Glass employs 3,300 people at nine plants across Europe, five in the UK (Knottingley, Barnsley, Doncaster and Worksop in northern England, and Irvine in Scotland) two in Germany, one in Poland and one in Italy. Rexam“s glass division employs 3,600 people at thirteen plants in Denmark, Germany, Holland, Poland and Sweden.
