The 17th International Seminar on Furnace Design – Operation & Process Simulation was organised by Glass Service in June 2025. The event concluded with resounding success, bringing together over 150 participants from 20 countries for three days of knowledge exchange, innovation and collaboration in the heart of Europe.
Held at the Wellness Hotel Horal in Velke Karlovice, Czechia, the seminar featured 29 technical papers presented by leading experts across the glass industry. Topics ranged from advanced furnace modelling and energy efficiency to CO2 reduction strategies and the integration of AI in glass production. The event also spotlighted cutting-edge developments in hybrid and hydrogen technologies, waste heat recovery and Industry 4.0 applications.
The seminar’s dynamic program included the 13th GFM Users’ Meeting, a Glass Defects Workshop, and a series of technical sessions that fostered in-depth discussions and practical insights. Social events such as the Welcome Reception and Farewell Party provided valuable networking opportunities in a relaxed setting.
“We are proud to have hosted such a diverse and engaged group of professionals,” said Erik Muijsenberg, Business Development Director of Glass Service. “The exchange of ideas and the spirit of collaboration were truly inspiring. This seminar reaffirmed our shared commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the glass industry.”
One of the highlights of the seminar was the presentation of the 10th GS Modeling Award to John Page from Cardinal, in recognition of his great work using simulation tools in glass production. With over 40 years in the glass industry, John has made a lasting impact on furnace design and modelling.
