British glass group Pilkington reported pre-tax profits for the six months to 30 September 1996 of UK 75 million, a 28% drop on the year-earlier figure. The reduced earnings are said to be the result of the fall in prices of building glass throughout Europe. Pilkington“s US business did well and the first of its three Chinese plants is now running at a profit.
