Building work has begun on a glass fiber plant in Xicohtencatl, Tlaxcala, Mexico, which is being set up as a joint venture between US Owens Corning and French Saint-Gobain. The facility, which will produce glass fiber rovings for the composites industry, is located beside an established Saint-Gobain Vetrotex America site. Saint-Gobain Vetrotex and Owens Corning will sell the rovings produced by the 50/50 joint venture equally. Production and delivery of initial runs of the product is planned for late 2004, the companies said. According to Saint-Gobain, the market for reinforced plastics is growing by around 5% a year.
