High-voltage insulators place extremely high demands on the quality of glass production. Due to their application, insulators must exhibit high thermal shock resistance and particularly high tensile strength. These properties can only be achieved through excellent chemical homogeneity and the complete absence of bubbles or inclusions, as such imperfections create predetermined breaking points. With article weights of up to 13 kilograms, this places substantial demands on the melting process.
The fact that Nanjing Electric Technology Group, China, the leading manufacturer of all types of insulators, especially glass insulators, has ordered four SORG furnaces demonstrates that SORG’s melting technology meets these stringent requirements.
To date, SORG has supplied Nanjing with two fully electric SORG VSM® melting furnaces and one regenerative end-port furnace. The newly delivered furnace is also a regenerative end-port furnace. It was constructed as a greenfield project and completed within 12 months from contract signing to the start of heat-up.
The furnace features a 66 square metre melting area and is equipped with melting and barrier boosters. Batch material is fed via an enlarged doghouse using an EME-NEND® batch charger from EME.
Glass conditioning is handled by a SORG® STW distribution channel and two SORG® STF forehearths, both fitted with SORG® CONTI DRAIN® systems.
Supervision of the steel and refractory construction, equipment installation, heat-up and furnace filling was carried out by employees of the SORG Group.
