Malaysian Sheet Glass Sdn Bhd (MSG), which is wholly-owned by Japan“s Nippon Sheet Glass Co Ltd, is expected to open its new factory in Johor, Malaysia at the end of March 2005. MYR 80 million has been invested in the new float glass facility in Pasir Gudang. The plant, to be opened by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen, will be MSG“s second factory after the one in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. The firm is Malaysia“s only manufacturer of float and figured glass. MSG director Seigo Sasaki said the company had invested more than MYR 1 billion for the manufacture of float and figured glass since its establishment in 1971. “The start-up of this float furnace (in Pasir Gudang) has been made possible due to the success of the Customs-Industry Smart Partnership Programme in curbing illegal imports into the country,” Sasaki said. He noted that the programme was the first of its kind in the country.
