Mahaveer Mirror Industries Pvt. Ltd. of Chennai, India, has formed a joint venture with AGP Pte. Ltd. of Singapore to establish a INR 150,000,000 manufacturing facility at Irungattukottai, near Chennai. The plant will use the technology provided by DuPont based on its new process called “butacite“. Mahaveer Mirror, which is a major supplier of laminated glass, would hold the majority stake in the joint venture. Now, the company has also been marketing in India the architectural glass products manufactured by AGP. The joint venture will initially produce toughened glass (used in the automotive industry and solar panel holding photovoltaic batteries) and would start manufacturing laminated glass from 2003. The demand in India for laminated glass, which is low now, is expected to increase following rise in utilization in the construction industry and also the automotive industry.
