Japanese glassmaker Hoya has forecasted that for the fiscal year ending in March 1997 current profit will be up around 11% to stand at JPY 18.5 billion. If so, it would be the third consecutive year of record profitability. The company“s current healthy situation is credited mostly to glass magnetic disks for personal computers and masks for semiconductor production. The current predictions exceed the previous ones for the period by JPY 1.5 billion (see Glass Machinery Plants & Accessories No. 4-96). Consolidated profits will also grow by 14% to JPY 12.6 billion. Sales through September should reach JPY 64 billion, a 14% increase on the year-ago period.
