On 3 April, the US lighting technology firm Holophane Corporation of Columbus, Ohio, filed suit against Glendon Industries of Moline, Illinois, in a US Federal Court. Holophane charges Glendon with infringing Holophane“s trademark and trade dress rights in the Holophane GranVille(R) series lighting fixtures. Holophane has asked the court to enter an injunction against Glendon and for an award of money damages in excess of US$ 275,000. Mr. Tim Weisert, Holophane“s vice president of research & development, said, “The GranVille(R) series lighting fixtures were introduced by Holophane in 1986 following years of research and development.” The complaint claims that Glendon copied Holophane“s unique design, which will cause confusion in the marketplace.
