British building materials group Hepworth has announced it will be closing its headquarters in Sheffield, in the north of England, early in 1997 and moving to London in an attempt to improve efficiency. Hepworth has 35 employees in Sheffield. Redundancies are expected. The company, which reported a 5.3% fall in pre-tax profits to UK 35.5 million in the first half of 1996, put its refractories division, up for sale in October. The move away from refractories is part of Hepworth“s plan to concentrate on its core plumbing and heating businesses and expand into eastern Europe and China.
