Guardian Industries Corp. announced their deep sadness at the news that one of the company“s most senior executives, David L. Ford, was killed on 3 April in a plane crash over Croatia. Mr. Ford, aged 43, was one of 12 US business executives accompanying US Secretary of Commerce Ronald H. Brown on a commercial trade mission to Bosnia and Croatia. During the mission, Mr. Ford, on behalf of Guardian Industries Corp., was to donate 23 metric tons of flat glass to Sarajevo, which is enough to produce roughly 8,000 windows, as the war-torn Bosnian capital begins to rebuild. “When David learned of the opportunity to accompany Secretary Brown on his mission, he immediately began to think of how he could help the people of Sarajevo while he was there,” said Davidson. “When he learned of a shortage of glass in the area, he had an answer. David“s life may have been cut short by this tragic accident, but his determination to help others will live on. The glass has, in fact, been delivered to Sarajevo and has been delivered to the hospital. In a final effort before his death, David was able to provide much needed relief to the people of Sarajevo.” A plaque commemorating Mr. Ford“s final effort will be displayed in the hospital.
