The Czech glass producer Glavunion has created two new subsidiaries from two plants. The move is aimed at enabling Glavunion to concentrate on glass production and leave further processing to these companies, Glavunion“s spokesman Martin Kubat said on 3 January. The Splintex Czech subsidiary has been formed from the Chuderice-based Thorax plant. It will enable Glavunion“s majority owner, the Belgian Glaverbel group, to concentrate production of automobile glass under the Splintex trade mark. Together with the automobile division Splintex of Fleurus, Belgium, Splintex Czech will work towards a unified production and marketing policy for the whole of Europe. As a result of modernisation, all operations of Splintex Czech meet the ISO 9001 international quality standard. Splintex Czech, with a workforce of 640, produced around 5.7 million units of automobile glass in 1996, and this year production is to be raised to 6.7 million units. Export has exceeded 50% of production. The largest buyers are the VW, General Motors, Daewoo, Fiat and Renault groups . The second subsidiary is the former Glavostav plant of Chuderice, involved in the production of building glass and insulating glass and flat glued toughened glass.
