Belgian glassmaker Glaverbel said it sees significantly higher results in the second half of the year as a result of its merger with an industry peer, among other factors. “Structural elements…and the synergies resulting from the merger with PPG Glass Europe should lend substance to the group“s forecast of a significant increase in its results, confirming the trend observed in the first half,” it said in a statement. Glaverbel said it saw prices remaining firm beyond the end of 2000 for its Building and Industries divisions. The impact of higher energy costs should remain limited, it added. For the Automotive division, Glaverbel said, “.the profitability of this division will continue to be a cause for concern.” But it said the division“s increased size will position the group more favourably than in the past.
