Premier DGU, part of the United Glass Group, had a clear vision to grow their business, and needed to take their insulating glass production to the next level to support the growth.
Flexibility is in the heart of the Premium DGU business model and their target was to set up a benchmark in triple-glazing IGU production. A clear requirement was to handle a wide range of changing spacers types (warm edge flexible spacers and rigid box spacers), changing cavity widths and depths on a fully automated basis. Premier DGU team did a study of the technologies available and did reference visits to see which solutions would support their goals the best.
Today, Glaston’s fully automated line manufactures complete Insulating Glass units in just over 60 seconds, producing both double and triple-glazed sealed units with exceptional precision.
This gives Premier DGU production cost advantage and quality differentiation in the market. The result is best to come directly through from the customer.
Mark Harrison, CEO of United Glass Group, said, “We faced a huge risk of disturbing the business, going from two lines to one while the new one was being installed. That risk was successfully managed by Glaston strictly adhering to their timelines, and installation was smooth. In addition, Glaston was able to condense everything to fit into a relatively small footprint, without compromising cycle times. We see automation as key to our group’s future success by bringing us higher efficiency and quality. That is what this new Glaston IGU line allows us to do.”
