Dürr CTS commissions air pollution control system at Arglass

Arglass, a leading manufacturer of sustainable glass food and beverage containers, and Dürr CTS (Clean Technology Systems) announced the successful commissioning and smooth operation of a pioneering exhaust air purification system at the Arglass campus in Valdosta, Georgia.

Following the project’s initial phase in 2025, the plant is now fully operational under real-world conditions, serving as a successful customer reference and proof of concept for the North American glass market.

While this represents a significant milestone for the U.S. market, the technology utilised is built on a foundation of global success. Dürr CTS currently has multiple other CCF plants running worldwide, many of which are specifically serving the glass industry. This vast operational experience ensures that Dürr CTS provides proven and reliable solutions for the typical emissions challenges faced by glass producers, including the simultaneous removal of particulate matter (dust) and sulphur oxides (SOx).

Project success and performance
The project involved equipping one new oxy-fuel furnaces at the Arglass greenfield site with a comprehensive flue gas treatment system. By leveraging a global supply chain, Dürr CTS successfully managed the delivery of high-end technical components from Europe to the USA, offering a high-quality solution at a competitive cost. Key features of the operational facility include:

  • Advanced 2-in-1 filtration: The catalytic candle filter system effectively removes up to 90% of pollutants such as dust and SOx, simultaneously.
  • Uninterrupted production: The system’s modular design utilises seven modules to enable “n-1” operation. This allows individual modules to be isolated for maintenance while the plant continues to run, ensuring the glass melting furnace is never affected by planned maintenance.
  • Full-Service delivery: As a greenfield development, Dürr CTS provided full on-site service and technical support to realise the project where no existing utilities were available.

Close collaboration as success factor
The plant is currently operating smoothly, achieving all targeted emission values under real operating conditions. José de Diego Arozamena, Founder & CEO of Arglass, said, “The close collaboration with Dürr CTS, both during the realisation phase and following commissioning, has been excellent.”
