The most successful staging ever in the 26-year history of Glastec occurred at Glastec “96. Some 48,000 visitors from 62 countries attended the international trade fair for machinery, equipment, applications and products. This number represents a 7% increase over the 1994 edition. Glastec“s organisers say that the global significance of Glastec was reflected by the outstanding turnout of foreign visitors and exhibitors, 57% of the total. Nearly one in two trade specialists (45%) travelled to Dsseldorf, Germany for the exhibition and about one-third of visitors came from countries in Asia, North America, South and Central America and Africa. Virtually the whole international glass industry, glass mechanical engineering sector, skill trade and glass suppliers participated in the event. Products and know-how were showcased in a record exhibition area of 47,000 square metres. In the spotlight were streamlining and automation. The lion“s share of exhibitors represented the industry (45%) and trade (20%). Exhibitors said they were impressed by the decision-making authority of the trade experts who stopped by their stands, a factor that has significantly contributed to brisk post-fair business. “Satisfactory” to “very good” were the words used by more than 80% of the 836 exhibitors to describe their business success. The ancillary programme “Glass Technology Live” was also a hit. The unique global performance presentation focused on the various applications for glass as a material in architecture and art. According to the organisers, this show was a veritable magnet for architects, architecture students and design offers as well as window and facade engineers. More than 20,000 people flocked to see the presentation which occupied 7,000 square metres. Germany“s Glass Industry and Mineral Fibre Industry Federation and its member companies were extremely satisfied with Glastec “96. In addition, the country“s Association of Glass Machinery and Plant Manufacturers viewed it as a success. Business deals were made, and some even signed and sealed, in the hollow glass sector. Boosted exports are expected, with positive fallout for industry-wide developments in general.
