The Glazing Industry Code Committee (GICC) of Glass Association of North America recently announced its retaining a code consultant to represent the GICC before the continent“s model building code community. Don Belles was retained by GICC and has previously represented tempered and wired glass interest before the codes. The Glass Association of North America stated that Mr. Belles will be expected to effectively interface with model code executives and building officials, helping the GICC to achieve a new level of model code credibility, as well as enhance the influence of the glass, glazing and fenestration industries in the years ahead. As part of a recent reorganisation, the GICC adopted substantially revised by-laws and streamlined its business meetings and operations but, it said, without jeopardising its consensus method of developing industry positions on model building code proposals. Additionally, it has worked with the state of North Carolina to present a series of glass educational seminars to their building inspectors that was well-received. GICC has applied to BOCA to put on two “glass” educational seminars at its annual fall meeting.
