Furnotherm: Record-breaking glass furnace rebuild for Beta Glass

Furnotherm has reached another milestone in container glass furnace construction, having been entrusted with the challenging project of rebuilding the 250 tonnes 70 square metre container glass furnace, designed and equipment supplied by BDF Industries, Italy, for Beta Glass, Nigeria. The project demanded meticulous planning, comprehensive execution and delivery within an exceptionally short time-frame.

Scope of work included:

  • Refractories: demolition and reinstallation of 2,000 metric tonnes of refractories, including hot sealing.
  • Steel: dismantling, modification and reinstallation of approximately 90 tonnes of steel structures.
  • Furnace equipment installation: exhaust draught system, dampers, batch chargers, boosters, probes, cameras and cooling tower relocation.
  • Working end & forehearth equipment: installation of gas reduction units, blowers and burners along with combustion and cooling skids.
  • Utilities: replacement of old water lines with stainless steel across 26 circuits and new air and gas pipelines for the working end.
  • Combustion and cooling air ducting: fabrication and erection of combustion/cooling ducts, nozzles, skew ducts, blowers and fans for five forehearths.
  • Electrical works: Installation of MCC panels, cabling, trays and instrumentation for furnace, working end, and forehearths.
  • Heat-up and cullet filling.

Furnotherm successfully completed the entire scope of work in 48 days – Glass-to-Glass. It’s a record in the field of glass container industries.

Furnotherm thanks the Beta Glass team, especially Jagdish Agarwal, COO of Beta Glass, for their trust, guidance and technical expertise that were key to the project’s success.

The company also appreciates the valuable support from BDF Industries in the successful commissioning of the project.
