FMC Wyoming Corporation announced 26 May 2004 that from 1 July 2004 or as contract terms permit, it will raise off-list and list prices on all grades of soda ash by USD 15.00/short ton and USD 5.00/short ton respectively. The increase applies to both bulk and packaged soda ash. FMC also announced substantial changes in its contract terms. All future soda ash contracts, negotiated after 1 July 2004, will be on a freight collect (FOB Westvaco, WY) basis. FMC will prepay transportation charges, at the request of customers, and add the charges to the soda ash invoice for a USD 1/ton service charge. All transportation charges are subject to adjustment based on changes in freight costs, including carrier“s fuel surcharges. Even though the U.S. soda ash industry is operating at full capacity, FMC will not re-commission any of its mothballed capacity at the Granger, Wyoming, site until soda ash profitability recovers. “We believe that Granger is the industry“s most attractive capacity option because of our ability to re-start the facility in small increments with solution mining technology,” said Ed Flynn, General Manager, Alkali Chemicals Division. Mr. Flynn added, “Granger capacity will serve growth in export markets.”
