FEVE has joined more than 80 European industry federations and associations in calling on the European Commission to swiftly adopt a delegated act exempting pallet wrappings and straps from the 40 percent reuse target under Article 29(1) of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
FEVE welcomes the exemption of these transport packaging components from the reuse targets set out in Article 29(2) and (3), which recognises their essential role in ensuring product safety, operational continuity and supply-chain efficiency.
However, maintaining the 40 percent reuse target for pallet wrappings and straps would raise significant feasibility challenges. There are currently no technically viable reusable alternatives, and such requirements could disrupt supply chains, generate substantial additional costs and potentially lead to counterproductive environmental outcomes.
Together with a broad coalition of European industry organisations, FEVE therefore supports the call for the Commission to apply the same exemption to the 40 percent reuse target, in line with the criteria set out in Article 29(18) PPWR, notably environmental considerations and economic constraints.
