At Paris Packaging Week, the discussion on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) highlights what already works in Europe. Vanessa Chesnot, representing FEVE, the European Container Glass Federation, highlights that glass is already fit for the future: safe, reusable, recyclable and recycled at scale today.
Glass is a proven circular material and EU’ top recycling packaging performer, with an 81 percent collection rate, and 85 percent of collected glass packaging is recycled back into a true bottle-to-bottle closed loop. Glass is infinitely recyclable without loss of quality, fully aligned with the EU’s circular economy ambitions.
Its unique design versatility supports product protection, consumer trust and brand identity, while also enabling reuse and refill systems, helping brands meet both sustainability and consumer expectations.
For global brands, glass packaging is extremely well positioned to support PPWR goals, combining recyclability, safety, quality, design integrity and reuse potential.
Glass already meets many of the PPWR’s ambitions and continues to play a key role in a competitive, circular European packaging system.
