Eastman Signs Licensing Agreement with High Performance Optics

Eastman Signs Licensing Agreement with High-Performance Optics for Selective Blue Light Filtering Technology in Performance Films and Interlayers.

Eastman Chemical Company has signed an exclusive development and licensing agreement with High-Performance Optics (HPO) for the incorporation of Selective Blue Light Filtering (BLF) technology into films and interlayers for use in automotive, architectural, and electronics applications. In addition to the benefits already provided by Eastman’s films and interlayers, this technology helps protect the human retina and skin from dangerous high-energy light by providing an additional layer of protection for consumers.

“The collaboration with HPO is another step in our commitment to creating innovative solutions that enhance the quality of life for our customers,” said Travis Smith, vice president and general manager of Eastman Performance Films and Advanced Interlayers. “We have been testing and evaluating this technology with HPO for several years and look forward to working to bring this valuable technology to market.”

“HPO has been a leader in the intellectual space for Blue Light Filtering for over 10 years,” said Larry Rodriguez, chief executive officer, High-Performance Optics. “Eastman, a leader in innovation, has been evaluating this with us for several years. They have been a terrific application evaluation partner and now will be our development and commercial partner for this space.”

Eastman is a leading manufacturer and marketer of high-performance window tint and paint protection film for automotive applications and window film for residential and commercial applications. Eastman’s PVB interlayers enhance automotive glass lamination in a variety of ways, including head-up display technology, solar control, sound reduction, and safety, security, and UV protection. Both Performance Films and Interlayers are a part of Eastman’s Advanced Materials business segment.
