US chemicals group DuPont recorded third quarter 1996 net profits of US$ 898 million representing a US$ 129 million increase on third quarter 1995 figures. Turnover for the nine months to the end of September 1996 increased 2% to US$ 32.4 billion with 4% increased net profit of US$ 2.8 billion. DuPont shares increased in value from US$ 72 in January 1996 to US$ 96 in mid-October 1996. The group plans to invest US$ 4 billion divided equally between petroleum and chemical activities with an R & D budget of US$ 1 billion. Long-term objectives are to attain market leadership for 85% of the group“s activities by 2002.
