April 1996 will mark a further phase of expansion for UK-based Cookson Matthey Ceramics. A new representative office is being opened in New Delhi, to provide commercial and technical support to the many industries in India that use the wide range of products available from the company. The company points out that it is already a major supplier to India“s ceramic and glass industries. Onglaze colours are supplied to transfer manufacturers for tableware and tile decals, glass enamels are supplied to the beverage bottle industry and glaze stains to the tile and sanitaryware industries. Cookson Matthey explains that the New Delhi office will provide on-site representation, create closer customer links, and a future stock facility. In addition to meeting the decorative requirements of the tableware, tile, sanitaryware, transfer and glass industries, the office will also offer commercial and technical support to customers in the plastics and surface coatings industries for whom an extensive range of pigments and dispersions are manufactured. The office will be headed by sales and office manager Kevin Barker (in photo), who is 37 and married with three children. Since joining the company in 1981 he has progressed within the sales discipline, rising to become market manager of the Middle East and Africa in 1991. In this role, he has become familiar with the territory and many of its customers through numerous visits and other contacts. It is hoped that this progressive move will further strengthen the relationship between Cookson Matthey and its customers in India whilst, at the same time, encouraging the development of significant new business. The company also stated that in the longer term, it is confident that the Indian Representative Office will meet the requirements of the entire Indian sub-continent, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
