Close the Glass Loop and FEAD join forces to increase glass recycling

Close the Glass Loop welcomes the European Waste Management Association (FEAD) as its newest partner. With FEAD on board as the 16th European partner, the platform becomes even stronger in its mission to reach a 90 percent glass collection for recycling rate in the EU by 2030.

The waste management sector is a cornerstone of effective glass recycling. Waste management operators ensure that glass packaging collected from households and hospitality businesses is properly gathered, transported and processed to meet the quality standards needed for closed loop recycling. They provide the vital link between citizens who sort their glass and the recycling industry that turns it back into new bottles.

“Working closer with FEAD within Close the Glass Loop will help to ensure that more glass packaging is collected and from the collected material, more secondary raw materials are being used in the production of new glass packaging,” said Olivier Deweerdt, Secretary General of FERVER – European Federation of Glass Recyclers on behalf of Close the Glass Loop partners. “With this partnership, we can give extra confidence to municipalities and hospitality businesses to invest in the separate collection of glass packaging.”
