US-based CertainTeed Corporation“s Athens, Georgia fibre glass manufacturing facility marked its 25th anniversary of operation with an employee celebration recently. During its 25 years in operation, over US$ 500,000 has been donated by the plant and employees to local charities, and donations of fibreglass insulation to countless building projects for non-profit organizations. The plant has achieved ISO 9002 status from the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) for high quality in the manufacture of fiberglass insulation products and was awarded the 1997 Georgia State “Air Quality Environmental Citizen of the Year” Award by the Department of Natural Resources for outstanding environmental record. In total, an estimated 250,000 houses and buildings were insulated last year from fibreglass produced at the plant, and an estimated five million homes since the plant began operation 25 years ago. To achieve this, Athens has added two major production lines since its start-up, and doubled its warehouse/storage capacity.
