German optical products group Carl Zeiss posted its highest ever turnover of EUR 2.257 billion for fiscal 2001/02, ended 30 September 2002, up 6.0% year-on-year, the company said on 12 December 2002. Carl Zeiss operating profit for 2001/02 was up by EUR 1.2 million compared to 2000/01 to reach EUR 176 million. Net profit stood at EUR 110 billion, slightly down on the 2000/01 result, Carl Zeiss head Dieter Kurz said. In 2001/02 group investment increased to EUR 138 million from EUR 122 million for 2000/01 and research and development costs to EUR 186 million, up 27% year-on-year. However, in 2002/03 the global economic slowdown is expected to affect company turnover, Kurz said.
