The most recent application of Carl Zeiss digital projection technology can be seen at the Grand Casino in the Swiss spa town of Baden, not far from Zurich. The technology has been used for a very special kind of digital cinema, offering 360 degree image projection.
Visitors to the Grand Casino in the Swiss spa town of Baden, not far from Zurich, can now experience a very special kind of digital cinema. Carl Zeiss has installed a powerdome® SPACEGATE Nova full-dome system, which projects films and images on a dome ten meters in diameter. Situated in the lounge area directly adjacent to the gaming floor, the dome immerses guests in virtual worlds and enables them to take a journey into space. The full-dome technology from Carl Zeiss is normally used in planetariums for 360 degree image projection. The Grand Casino in Baden is the first casino to offer its visitors a digital full-dome projection experience.
The expertise Carl Zeiss has accumulated in the field of dome projection has proved to be equally valuable in this rather more unusual project. The system installed in Baden consists of six video projectors fed with images and videos by the powerdome computer system, which was specially developed by Carl Zeiss.
The Grand Casino Baden is located in the listed ‘Kursaal’ building and attracts some 1,200 visitors a day. It has recently been renovated and re-opened on 30 November 2012 complete with the new feature of its full-dome projection system.
