As part of its restructuring plan for greater international competitivity, Italian glass manufacturer Bormioli Rocco e Figlio SpA shut down the last furnace at its plant in Parma, northern Italy on 5 May 2004. The workers from the Parma plant will be transferred to new facilities in Fidenza and Castelguelfo, both in Parma province. The site 170,000 sq m occupied by the plant will be redeveloped for residential use. A glass industry school and museum is also planned for the former site of the works. Bormioli Rocco registered preliminary turnover for 2003 of EUR 561.6 million (USD 680.1 million).
