The Czech Republic company Bohemia Crystalex Trading (BCT), which began operating last July, exported goods worth Kc 450 million in 1996 and expects to report a slight profit, the company said on 12 February. According to Miroslava Chaloupkova from the BCT marketing division, the company did not achieve its export target because it had been let down by a traditional distribution link. “The goods were already produced and we had to quickly look for new distribution channels,” Chaloupkova added, without specifying the distribution shortfall. According to 1997 plans, BCT will export goods worth Kc 1.3 billion, which represents the entire export capacity of the glassmaker Crystalex, for whom BCT acts as exclusive exporter. Crystalex is the majority shareholder in BCT.
