BirdSmart® Bird Safe Glass by Vitro named Product of the Year

In its annual Products of the Year competition, Architectural Record selected BirdSmart® Bird Safe Glass by Vitro Architectural Glass.

Architectural Record’s prestigious Record Products competition showcases a global selection of recently introduced interior finishes and lighting, software and technology, building materials and systems and kitchen and bath products. The jury of U.S.-based architects and engineers chose 67 products for their inventiveness, functionality, sustainability and performance.

Launched in March of 2025, BirdSmart® glass features first-surface laser etched patterns with a Solarban® solar control, low-e coating on the second surface. It delivers optimal Visible Light Transmittance (VLT) and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) without sacrificing performance or style.

BirdSmart® glass is available in 6mm thickness with four laser-etched dot patterns (2×2 square, 2×4 rectangle, 2×4 diamond and 2×2 diamond) with directional and non-directional orientation. It can be applied to clear, Acuity® and Starphire® low-iron glasses and paired with Solarban® 65, Solarban® 70 and Solarban® 72 glasses on the second surface.

Additional benefits of BirdSmart® glass include:

  • A “clean” etching process that is non-caustic and uses no harsh chemicals
  • First-surface markers are more effective for birds that don’t see ultraviolet (UV) coatings as well
  • Both BirdSmart®glass and Solarban® glass are manufactured at Vitro’s Wichita Falls plant, ensuring an efficient supply chain
  • Available in sizes up to Titan™glass (130×240 inches) and can be ordered in sizes as small as one pack
  • Can be manufactured without a low-e coating
