Czech glass producer Bohemia Crystalex Trading (BCT) could suffer losses of Kc 100 million as a result of the termination of cooperation with the Skloexport company, BCT“s CEO Vladimir Vomacka has said. Skloexport told its branches abroad not to cooperate with BCT and to cancel confirmed contracts at a time when both suppliers, Crystalex Novy Bor and Sklo Bohemia Svetla nad Sazavou, had already produced the goods contracted for the last quarter of 1996. “Substitute solutions are possible and realistic, maybe even advantageous in the end because a trade link which only costs money can be eliminated, but it“s a matter of time,” said Vomacka. He believes that turnover will temporarily fall but that the final effect will be positive. The move will also have an adverse effect on Skloexport itself, because its firms will have lower profits. The two largest domestic producers of household utility glass Crystalex Novy Bor and Sklo Bohemia Svetla nad Sazavou set up BCT in mid-1996 with the aim of promoting sales of their products on foreign markets.
