At the 5th European Energy and Industry Conference, Tiago Moreira da Silva, CEO of BA Glass, European Container Glass Association (FEVE), made one thing clear: for energy-intensive industries, staying out of today’s policy discussions is not an option.
European industry is at a crossroads. Without a clear medium to long-term perspective, how can companies keep investing, and remain competitive, in Europe?
Tiago Moreira da Silva shared why engaging in today’s policy discussions is critical for energy‑intensive industries. With multiple plans, rules, and regulatory directives under development, the key challenge remains forecastability, especially around energy, electricity and price evolution.
The central question facing European industry today is clear: can we continue to invest and remain competitive in Europe without a clear medium to long‑term perspective? While the current context is challenging, there is also a strong willingness to engage, learn and understand how promising ideas can move faster from discussion to reality.
“When you are in an industry today in Europe, the most important question to answer is: can we continue to invest in this industry in Europe? If we don’t have a medium-long‑term perspective, then it becomes really hard,” said Tiago.
