Glass packaging manufacturer Avirunion (Dubi, Czech Republic) raised its exports to more than 50% of sales in 2004 from 40% in 2002. The firm“s main product is beer bottles. Avirunion belongs to US glass group Owens-Illinois, the world“s largest glass packaging producer. The group now operates under the global business name O-I, which is being adopted by the 22 subsidiaries including AVIR (Italy), United Glass Limited (UK), ACI Packaging Services Pty in Asia and the newly acquired BSN Glasspack in Europe. Avirunion sold 782 million items of glass packaging in 2004 for CZK 1.925 billion compared to CZK 2.19 billion from 800 million items in 2003. Staff numbers have fallen from 571 in 2002 to 564 in 2003 and 439 at the end of 2004.
