US firm Apogee Enterprises, Inc. announced on 14 January a realignment of its senior operating management along market lines, reflecting a shift in corporate focus and financial reporting adopted last year. The realignment also represents a major step in the transition to “a new generation of managers” at Apogee, according to Donald W. Goldfus, chairman, chief executive officer and president. Also announced was the hire of a new corporate controller. Under the new organisation, which will take effect on 1 March 1997, Mr. Joseph T. Deckman, 53, who was named president of the Wausau Architectural Products Group in 1995, will become president of the Building Products & Services (BPS) segment, Apogee“s largest group. BPS includes both Minneapolis-based Harmon Contract, one of the world“s largest curtainwall contractors, Harmon Full Service (small projects), and several aluminium fabrication and coating subsidiaries headquartered in Wausau, Wisconsin, US. Thomas N. Adamson, 48, formerly chief executive officer of the Commercial Construction Division, will take over as president of Apogee“s Auto Glass segment, replacing Larry C. Anderson, 53, who is retiring. The segment makes, distributes and installs replacement auto glass. Robert V. Baumgartner, 40, an officer of the Glass Fabrication Division, will take on added responsibility within the Auto Glass segment. This segment will continue to report to James L. Martineau, 56, Apogee“s executive vice president. Russell Huffer, 47, named president of the Glass Technologies segment last year, will continue to lead this business unit. Glass Technologies includes Apogee“s glassmaking and glass coating operations. Huffer will also assume responsibility for Tru Vue, a picture frame glass and matboard manufacturer. In addition, he will oversee Apogee“s security and detention units, part of the Building Products & Services segment. Richard Gould, senior vice president, said, “The realignment was designed with an eye toward both building on management for the future and strengthening our capacity to improve the business.” Goldfus pointed out that the company continues to build a solid team of new managers at the corporate level as well. Robert G. Barbieri, 41, formerly a division controller at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in Allentown, Pennsylvania, has joined Apogee as corporate controller. Barbieri reports to Terry Hall, 42, vice president, finance and chief financial officer.
