12 February 1998: Last year, the Hungarian crystal glass maker Ajka Kristaly Uvegipari Kft (part of the Fotex group) sold more than 90% of its output on foreign markets, including south-east Asia. Ajka says that its crystal ware is becoming increasingly popular in Thailand, Singapore and South Korea, as well as in Japan, and that, as a result of the boost in exports, the company recorded a turnover of Ft 3 billion in 1997, up from the Ft 2.4 billion a year earlier. Its 1997 pre-tax profit is expected to reach nearly Ft 300 million. The company has said it expects further growth in its output, turnover and profits this year.
