This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of AGR International, Inc., US manufacturer of laboratory, quality control and productivity improvement equipment for the glass container, plastic container and pharmaceutical packaging industries. The company was founded in 1936 as Preston Laboratories and, after several years of producing quality control and testing equipment for the glass industry, was reorganised in 1961 as American Glass Research, Inc. During the 1960s, AGR developed a proprietary method of detecting thin spots in glass containers while on the production line. According to AGR, this method was adopted by glass container manufacturers around the world, and was instrumental in revolutionising the glass container industry. Company growth followed during the 1960s and 1970s. During the 1970s and early 1980s, AGR began producing on-line code reading systems and process information systems. Building on its glass sector experience, AGR then diversified into plastic container and pharmaceutical package inspection equipment, and, in 1989, adopted the name AGR International, Inc. to reflect this diversification. In addition, AGR recently reorganised its Sales and Marketing function into two departments. The reorganisation of these groups is intended to improve the company“s focus on service to its customers, both now and in the future. Henry Dimmick, Jr. has been named vice-president of Sales. Mr. Dimmick has worked in the glass industry for fourteen years in engineering and sales positions. His eight years at AGR have been spent working in both glass inspection and equipment sales and venture groups within AGR. Luke Scrivanich has been named vice-president of Marketing. For the past five years, Mr. Scrivanich has served as AGR“s process improvement director, with assignments in operations and marketing. With installations in over 83 countries, AGR states that it is committed to providing the latest innovations in container inspection technology.
