An investment of up to US$ 41.5 million was announced by the Chilean glass manufacturer Cristalerias de Chile to expand its glass plant. The expansion will involve building a new unit with production capacity of 92,000 tonnes a year, the company said in a statement. Cristalerias de Chile also reported its net earnings for the first nine months of 1995 of 7.68 billion pesos (US$ 18.5 million), down 0.3% from 1994. Local analysts say the difference is due in large part to accounting losses in the third quarter on the associated cable TV business, and to the impact of the depreciation of the peso during the quarter on the company“s dollar debt service charges. Operating income was 6.78 billion pesos in the quarter, up 15% from the same 1994 period.
