Asahi India Safety Glass (AISG), Triveni Sheet Glass (TSG), Excel Glass (EG), Haryana Sheet Glass (HSG), and Victory Glass and Industries (VGI), are some of the major players in the Indian glass industry. AISG manufactures toughened glass (installed capacity 767,000 sq. m.) and laminated glass (32,575 units). It has technical and financial collaboration with the Asahi Glass Company of Japan. For the half-year of 1995-96, AISG has posted a turnover of Rs 41.49 crore and net profit of Rs 1.07 crore. The provision for depreciation increased three-fold compared to the same period in 1994-95. The scrip price is Rs 535. TSG manufactures sheet glass, tinted glass and figured wired glass. TSG has tied-up with China Machinery Import & Export Corporation of China to set up a float glass unit with a capacity of 28 million sq. m. For the year 1994-95, TSG posted a turnover of Rs 74.23 crore and a net of Rs 4.49 crore. The equity base is at Rs 7.93 crore. The scrip price is quoting around Rs 60 and Rs 70. EG of the Parijat group manufactures flint glass bottles and containers. The installed capacity of the plant is 23,000 tonnes of bottles per year. For the first half of 1995-96, EG has posted a turnover of Rs 12.26 crore and net profit of Rs 1.52 crore. The annualised EPS on the equity base of Rs 2.26 crore works out at Rs 13.45. The share price is Rs 105. HSG manufactures sheet glass with an installed capacity of 13.5 million sq. m. per year. HSG is setting up a 100% export oriented unit at Ankleshwar, India to manufacture speciality figured and wired glass. It is also setting up a light weight glass bottle plant with an installed capacity of 150 tonnes per year. For the year 1994-95, HSG recorded a turnover of Rs 60.71 crore and net profit of Rs 3.41 crore. The EPS is at Rs 4.62 on an equity of Rs 7.38 crore. The scrip price is Rs 42. VGI manufactures glass bottles. It has an installed capacity of 31,000 tonnes per year, which will be increased to 36,500 tonnes per year at a cost of Rs 5.20 crore. VGI is setting up a 2 MW wind farm project at a cost of Rs 10.50 crore. It is also setting up a PET bottle manufacturing plant at a cost of Rs 10 crore. The installed capacity is 20 million bottles per year.
