Glass fibre sales in Western Europe rose to 560,000 tonnes in 1995. According to PPG Industries, of the US, growth is forecast to be around 4%-5% per year during 1996-1997. Vetrotex, the French glass fibre producer, also accepts these market projections. In Europe, three key end-use sectors – thermosets, thermoplastics and textiles – represented 56%, 19% and 25% of sales volume, respectively. PPG has introduced two chopped strand products for polypropylene and polyamide and is targeting infrastructure as a high growth market. The company has recently introduced a new generation of glass fibre rovings for corrosion resistant pipes.
