It was recently announced that the Society of Glass and Ceramic Decorators show and technical seminar held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, in October 1995 was attended by 752 members and guests, reflecting a 32% increase from 1994 and establishing a new attendance record. A total of 71 suppliers to the decorating industry exhibited at the show which also represents a new SGCD record. The Coalition for Safe Ceramicware also held its first technical conference during the SGCD show with 52 CSC and SGCD members in attendance. During DECO “95 and the technical seminar, Pete Cassebeer, senior research scientist with American Olean Tile Company, was elected president of the Society of Glass and Ceramic Decorators for 1995-96. He succeeds Russ Carlson, Engelhard Corp., who served as president in 1994-95. As reviewed in his inaugural remarks at SGCD“s awards banquet, Mr. Cassebeer will emphasise member services during his tenure as president. He also plans to focus on new technologies such as the internet to disseminate information to members. SGCD members also elected David Ulmer, sales and services representative, E.W. Bowman, to serve as vice president and Wayne Zitkus, technical manager, Libbey Inc., to serve as treasurer. Ulmer served as treasurer in 1994-95, and Zitkus was a member of the board of directors. Ulmer has been with Bowman since 1985, and he is currently involved in field service installations. Zitkus joined Libbey in 1982 after working for parent company Owens-Illinois for 25 years in engineering and management positions involving new products and services.
