Japanese electronics company Sony Corp. is currently looking for applicants to staff its television glass plant in the US, which is to open next year. The American Video Glass Co. is a joint venture of Sony Electronics Inc. and Corning Asahi Video Products Co., formed by US glass producer Corning Inc. and the US subsidiary of Asahi Glass Co. of Japan. The glass plant is under construction in Westmoreland County, Pittsburgh, adjacent to the television production plant built by Sony in the shell of a huge plant once occupied by Volkswagen. The glass plant is expected to open next April. Sony intends to hire at least 400 people for the glass plant, including some administrators and professionals such as accountants and engineers.
