A new print/apply labelling system that prints and applies labels to fragile packaging and to items having unusual shapes is now available from Avery Dennison – Seobar Products of the United States. The system, called the Datapply Fixed Tamp Jet, applies labels to products, packages and cartons. The one-on-one feature allows each individual item to be labelled with specific variable information, an important capability in applications where users create a different label for each item. The system“s fixed tamp jet applicator performs a variety of tasks. For cylindrical products or for applications requiring non-aggressive adhesive, the applicator will contact the product and apply the label with a burst of air, ensuring secure adhesion. The fixed tamp jet applicator is also used for non-contact applications. It is designed to tamp a fixed height (within 1/2″ to 5/8″ of the product), then gently but firmly apply the label. In addition to applying labels to difficult-to-label cylindrical-shaped items, the fixed tamp jet applicator head helps ensure that products such as delicate pharmaceutical vials, sensitive electronic components, heavy industrial items and fragile retail display packages are not damaged during the labelling process. The system“s print head employs thermal transfer technology to produce bar codes, graphics and text. The software provides users with common field and spread sheet data entry. It can also stop label production in mid-run to process emergency orders. The system can be top-, bottom- or side-mounted to a user“s existing packaging line conveyor. Its standard horizontal mounting system accommodates conveyors of varying heights; optional casters facilitate transport of the system to different conveyors. The Datapply Fixed Tamp Jet system processes labels measuring 1/2 x 1. inch, and prints on an area measuring up to 5″ wide x 14″ long. It is available in fully automatic or semi-automatic configurations. Maximum print speed is 10 inches per second. Options include integrated conveyers, storage trays, and bar code scanners and verifiers.
