A board spokesman at Schott Glasswerken of Mainz, Germany, recently stated that the basic strategy of the company for the next few years will be to expand production and sales abroad while retaining stability in Germany. The 1995-96 financial year (to 30 September) saw 71% of turnover, unchanged at DM 2.7 billion, derived from abroad. Foreign turnover climbed 8%, while German turnover dropped 6%. The German operations“ failure to show profits is attributed to losses totalling DM 40 million at Jenaer Glaswerks.
