The German insulating glass manufacturer Interpane Glas Industrie AG, increased 1996 sales by 30% to 6.6 million square metres, markedly more than group turnover which rose by 5.1% to DM 248 million. Company chairman Bernd Kramer stated that an imbalance between supply and demand within the glass market led to pricing pressure which alongside mediocre demand for construction work had affected turnover. Pre-tax earnings rose from DM 12.5 million in 1995 to DM 13.4 million in 1996. Taking start-up losses at the glass coating plant in Lauenfoerde into consideration, this represents an effective decline of 7.5%.
