Germany“s chemicals, paper and ceramics industry trade union has agreed to job cuts at the Torgau plant of porcelain manufacturer Villeroy & Boch (Mettlach), according to a union spokesman. The reduction of the workforce, which will mean the loss of 180 out of 248 jobs, is reportedly necessary in order to save the plant. As a result of a drop in sales, the facility had been working at 65% of capacity and Villeroy & Boch had considered closing the factory.
