Japanese glass firm Asahi Glass Co. has introduced a special glass that better endures the rigorous production process of colour plasma-display panels (PDPs). PDPs are the favoured type of display for wall-mounted televisions. Their manufacture includes a heat-treating process in which temperatures range from 570-600C, during which the glass can change shape and shrink. Asahi claims its PD200 glass reconciles a high deformation point with a high heat-expansion coefficient. Two sheets of PD200 are used in each display.
