Germany“s Schott Corporation and Chicago Miniature Lamp, Inc. of the United States have announced the formation of a joint venture company, to expand substantially their respective fibre optic activities in North America. The new company, called Schott-CML Fiberoptics, Inc. combines the customer bases, manufacturing resources and engineering skills of Schott“s fibre optic division in Wiesbaden, Germany, Schott Fibre Optics (UK) Ltd. in Doncaster, England and Chicago Miniature Lamp“s division CML Fiberoptics, Inc. in Marlborough, Massachusetts, US. Schott Corporation (headquartered in Mainz, Germany) is one of the world“s largest manufacturers of optical and technical glasses for commercial, industrial, scientific, and consumer markets. Chicago Miniature Lamp, Inc. is a vertically integrated manufacturer of value-added miniature lighting assemblies, bulbs, sockets, ballasts and fibre optics. Its products are used by all major automotive, industrial OEM, commercial and consumer goods manufacturers. In Europe, Chicago Miniature Lamp, Inc. operates through its Alba Lighting Division in Bamberg, Germany. Alba is a manufacturer of miniature lamps, miniature lighting assemblies, and instrument lighting systems that utilise innovative optical “light pipe” designs. The fibre optics divisions of each of these companies have been servicing the growing needs of medical, industrial and commercial markets. The new company will hope to capitalise on new growth areas emerging in the rapidly expanding fibre optic market, especially in the automotive and architectural lighting fields.
